What attracted you to GCU? GCU’s success and growth, the amazing contributions GCU is contributing to the surrounding community and especially the Christian values it promotes.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love music! All genres and enjoy attending concerts. One year I attended 72 concerts. My top three favorite concerts: The Rolling Stones, Pink and No Doubt.
What are you passionate about? I’m an animal advocate volunteering with various welfare organizations to protect animal rights and ensure their safety. I have two dogs — one is named Beckham (yes, after the soccer player), and the other one is named Presley because when he smiles he has that cute Elvis grin.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love hiking South Mountain during the cooler temperatures and attending the Cactus League spring training games. I also love strolling through the Phoenix Art Museum and observing the beautiful art and special art exhibits.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I have watched every episode of the “Twilight Zone” more times than I can count and can have a detailed discussion on Rod Sterling’s perspective of the episode. My favorite episode is “Eye of the Beholder,” and the meaning of this episode is self-explanatory.
What are you most proud of? Becoming vegan. It’s been about two years since I made this lifestyle change and I couldn’t be happier.

RYAN KRYSKA

What attracted you to GCU? “There’s something amazing happening there that’s hard to put into words.” I had heard that saying time and time again in the months that followed my move to Arizona. When a spot opened up in the communications office, I decided I’d go see what all the hype was about, and I realized this was the place for me. GCU’s purpose, its caring community, hope and positive energy is all I could ask for in a workplace.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? You’ll find me competing on the Lopes Performance Center basketball court as often as I can. I live and breathe sports. Basketball is my passion, but challenge me to just about anything and I’m game.
What are you passionate about? Faith, family, friendship, sports and positive energy.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I have a secret spot at Saguaro Lake that my friends and I off-road to. There’s another spot at Lake Pleasant that my dog loves. During the cooler seasons, I play basketball and volleyball at Rose Mofford Sports Complex at dusk. A new tradition I’d like to start is making it out to the professional sports arenas when my hometown Detroit teams come to play.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I have terrible luck with nose injuries, but nothing to show for it. A few years ago, I lost a flyball in the lights while running up from left field. Needless to say, the softball broke my nose pretty good. I had surgery to fix my crushed septum and was able to escape without a crooked nose. Thanks, Doc. Last year, while visiting my family in Michigan, I was saying goodbye to board my plane and the blind, old family dachshund latched on to my nose like a piranha. The dog has only six teeth left, and five of those left solid puncture marks. I had to make a stop at the ER before the airport, where the doctor decided against stitches because of the rugged wounds. Six months later, the teeth holes have healed without incident. There also was the time when I had chickenpox as a kid and dug a crater into my nostril, but I’ll spare you that story.
What are you most proud of? I’m most proud of my family, especially my parents, for being upstanding role models in my life.
