ERICA GILLETTE

Erica Gillette
Job title: Field experience counselor, College of Nursing and Health Care Professions
Job location: Peoria
What attracted you to GCU? The commitment GCU has to its surrounding community and student body. I am a returning employee, and it is so refreshing to see that everything President Brian Mueller talked about more than a year ago is actually happening.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Camping and hiking in Arizona, California, and Oregon. I am also an artist, so I love to paint and do printmaking.
What are you passionate about? Living life with no regrets and having fun.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? South Mountain hiking trails, Tempe Arts Festival and any type of cultural festival.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I met MC Hammer when I was 9! He was practicing with his dancers at my uncle’s apartment in Sacramento. This was before he was super famous. I saw him later in Las Vegas at a club my friends and I were at in the MGM after the Billboard Awards. How often do you get to meet people before and after they are famous?
What are you most proud of? I’m most proud of my 4-month-old son, Samuel Wayne Austin Gillette (SWAG). The initials were not on purpose. He is named after his great grandpa and grandpas.

Carolyn Cavalier
CAROLYN CAVALIER
Job title: University counselor
Job location: Main
What attracted you to GCU? I have heard nothing but positive feedback from my friends who work here. I have also had several friends who earned their master’s degrees at GCU. I plan to do the same.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to hike, camp and am always up for trying something new and exciting with regard to active life and fitness. I recently tried rock climbing with one of my new co-workers and it was addicting! Also, I love eating food, cooking food and meeting new people who also like to eat.
What are you passionate about? I like helping people, and I think that’s why I wanted to be a University counselor. I also believe that we must all own our development in our careers and life. Therefore, I am constantly looking for ways to better myself.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I like to visit Fossil Creek and Camelback Mountain. As for the best events, I recently went to the 7th Annual Arizona Taco Festival. Who doesn’t like unlimited tacos?
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I can speak, read and write in Japanese.
What are you most proud of? I am really proud of the sociolinguistics fieldwork that I conducted while I was studying abroad in Japan during college. I spent several months studying children’s speech, specifically how they created new forms of slang and their casual speech patterns.
